Making artificial intelligence human and accessible

For most people, AI is either invisible or intimidating.

Google wanted to change that by creating A–Z of AI — an educational resource that made artificial intelligence understandable, relevant, and engaging for the general public.

The ambition: strip away the jargon, tell the human stories, and show how AI shapes our world — from the everyday to the extraordinary.

We worked with Google’s Creative Lab to shape the narrative and structure of the A–Z of AI experience.

This meant:

Defining an editorial voice that was clear, warm, and curious.

Collaborating with designers, developers, and subject matter experts to translate complex concepts into interactive, bite-sized stories.

Building a flexible A–Z structure that allowed visitors to jump between topics, discover unexpected connections, and learn at their own pace.

What we learned

People connect to AI when it’s framed through human impact, not technical detail.

interactivity and visual storytelling are powerful tools for breaking down abstract concepts.

Trust is built through transparency — acknowledging both the opportunities and risks of AI.

A–Z of AI launched globally as a free, open-access learning tool, attracting millions of visitors in its first year.

It has been used by educators, journalists, and curious individuals as a go-to resource for understanding AI’s role in modern life.

Why it matters

Conversations about AI often happen in boardrooms or labs. This project put them in living rooms, classrooms, and cafés — helping people everywhere feel part of the discussion about our shared technological future.
